- I designed the front cover of my magazine in the style of Q magazine (300th issue) because the magazine appealed to me- I hope to re-create this cover with a similar photograph, using my model.
- I wanted to capture the 'rock chick' look of the magazine, so I chose a medium close-up photograph of a young female model dressed in a leather jacket.
- Direct mode of address is used to create a more personal relationship with the reader.
- The image I used in the mock-up has been cropped. This has influenced my design so that the masthead cannot go behind the model's head- this will be changed in my actual design.
- I may also include more text on the cover in my final draft, as I think the design needs to be less bare.
Contents Page
- I have continued the house colours (black/grey, white and red) used on the front cover.
- I have made the layout simple so that the information is clear and easy to access.
- I chose four images that I thought would conform with the indie rock genre, which I will re-create for my magazine.
Double Page Spread
- I have made the background a dark grey colour (wob typography) for a more dramatic look. This effect is continued through the use of black and white photographs.
- A photograph (medium close-up using direct mode of address) takes up a whole page so that the format is aesthetically pleasing and captivates the reader's attention.
- I have included pull-quotes to entice the reader, and text for general information about the 'upcoming artist' (for cognitive needs).
